About Us

Hi. My name is Ellen Holbrook.  I’m a Marketing Consultant, Producer, and amateur Marathon runner living in Berkeley, California.  A few years ago, I started this blog, The Positive Thinking Diet, as a personal project.  I wanted to get myself into the regular habit of thinking about all the positive and good things in the universe that I am grateful for, big and small, and anything else that inspires me – and writing about it.

When I first started the blog and was writing a few posts a week, I immediately noticed that many things in my life started to go much better for me.  I felt happier and healthier.  I had more self confidence.  I felt funnier.  Men paid more attention to me.  When I decided to look for a new job, I was able to get in the door at more companies and I even got 2 great job offers at the same time.

Of course, then I got lazy about writing new posts and started writing less often.  Months would go by when I didn’t post anything.  And my life wasn’t quite as good.  Still, a few friends started reading my blog, and my father even started reading the blog and looking up more facts on the topics and materials I referenced.  I was really happy to know that my Dad liked my blog.  But still, I have not been writing as frequently as I should.

So now it’s 2012, and I’m re-committing myself to writing posts for The Positive Thinking Diet at least once a week.  I finally transferred all of the old posts over to WordPress from Blogger.  The Blogger site still exists, but now it has a link to here.

I’m currently finishing up a consulting project for the Greater Good Science Center at UC Berkeley, (GGSC) which is a terrific resource for anyone seeking the latest information on the Science of Compassion, Gratitude, Altruism, Happiness, and all areas of Positive Psychology.  The GGSC project has reminded me that ”happiness”depends more on how we *choose* to think about things, and actually has very little to do with our actual circumstances.  There are many things that we can all do to become happier in our lives – and for me, one of these things is by writing this blog.

I’m also working on my own projects, such as Socko & Friends, a band of real, live socks who’ve decided to get out and explore the world and have as much fun as they can.  Socko & Friends travel the world and are always having adventures – many of which are caught on videos that are posted at Socko.com.   I’m not sure what Socko will do next, but it will be fun!

Thank you for reading, and if you feel like it, please “Like” us on Facebook!
